Blogger vs. WordPress

Many people have started off with a blog. Some have used it as a marketing tool, and some have used it for other professional reasons. For others, it is just a platform for sharing ideas and information. Whatever the reason for creating a blog, the most confusing part is choosing the blogging platform.

There are two popular blogging platforms to start out with, WordPress and Blogger. In this article, we will look at the features and differences between these two tools. Afterward, you will able to choose the best one according to your requirements.

  • Blogger or WordPress?

Although this article talks about WordPress and Blogger, many other options are also available. Among them, these two are the largest blogging platforms on the Internet. By using these hosting sites, you can increase traffic to your blog. Here’s a comparison between these two platforms.

  • Starting the Blog

If you are new to blogging and plan to start your own blog, you can easily set it up and create an account on Blogger. It would only take about 15-20 minutes to set it up. You will be allowed to start posting immediately after that. Blogger offers several free templates to make your blog stand out.

If you want to start blogging with WordPress, you need to install in first and go through several steps on setup. These might be difficult for a very new user. But if once the setup is done, blogging is quite easy.

  • Usages and Customization

If you are looking for different categories for your blog to make it look like a magazine, Blogger will disappoint you. However, you can do this with WordPress. You can easily add categories to your blog and be able to display them differently on the main page. With the right plugins you can also make a magazine-like layout using your blogs.

To increase the interaction on your site, you can add different tools with Blogger. There are some pretty themes and some nifty tools that can be added to the main template. You can also use additional themes, plugins, and advanced tools with WordPress. These features will help you extend your blog beyond the blogging platform.

  • Publishing

WordPress is much easier than Blogger to publish blogs, but you will get several features with both. Some WordPress features are good and some are better with Blogger.

  • Copyright

Pay close attention to the copyright features. You are the owner of your chosen domain name and blog content in WordPress. You are free to blog about everything under the sky. In other words, you are the owner of the WordPress database that holds your blog.

On the other hand, you will not get same liberty with Blogger. You are neither the owner of the content nor your domain name. Blogger is the owner of your blog database and they are able to stop your blogs without warning.

  • SEO and Traffic

There is no difference between the two blog types in regard to traffic and SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Traffic on any blog site depends on the quality of blog content. Remember, though the number of sites can be different, you can ping from Blogger and WordPress. But you have a limitation on the number of sites that you can ping from Blogger, but not WordPress.

  • Make Money

If you plan to start a commercial blog, then it is more sensible to start with Blogger. The fact is that the owner is same for money-making aspects and Blogger. WordPress, however, can be a little tricky. You need to be familiar with the blog permissions for commercial blogs.

Reading about these two blogging platforms can make it easier to choose the right one for your website. It can indeed be very hard to decide which is better. Basically, it depends on the kind of blog you are going to start. Here’s a simple tip: if you are looking to create a commercial blog, the better option is Blogger, for everything else, you should probably use WordPress.

I have several blogs and I am using both platforms. Blogger is easier, especially when you’re just starting out. What I love about WordPress are the plugins.

I would say, blogger is for beginners and wordpress is more for the experience bloggers. Both platforms are nice and user-friendly. I have blogs on both!

I used blogger briefly and never really liked it. There wasn’t enough customization abilities for me, so I soon switched to WordPress and have been using it ever since.
